Internet Sites
The Internet is full of great sites for every
topic. Here are a few of particular interest:
- Alberta Home Education Association
This is the biggest home school association in Alberta. They
have a big conference every year, in Red Deer. And there are
lots of good documents and articles on their site.
http://www.aheaonline.com
- Canada Info
500 pages of information about Canada. Includes government,
history, geography, etc.
http://www.craigmarlatt.com/canada
- Homeschool.com
A major home schooling site.
http://www.homeschool.com
- Homeschool-guide.com
Lots of teaching tips and articles.

- How Everyday Things Are Made - by Stanford University
They have lots of awesome videos showing how things are made.
Check out the high speed video showing how an entire jet airplane
(a 777) is built, and many others. Click on "How Everyday
Things Are Made" at this page:

- Home School Reviews
They have reviews of a large number curriculum, books, kits,
etc.

- A Science Site
Here is a science site we like, with lots of fun science videos.
This link goes directly to their videos page:

There are many science sites on the Internet.
- Project Gutenberg - Free Books
Over 20,000 free books, with complete text. These great books
are out of copyright, and are free for you to download and read.
Titles include books like Tom Sawyer (and other Mark Twain books),
the works of Plato, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, by Jules Verne,
Adventures Of Pinocchio, and many more.

- Science Toys You Can Make With Your Kids
This site has detailed instructions to build simple electric
motors, steam boats, vacuum pump, spectroscope, kaleidocycle,
and more.

- Physics - How Forces and Gravity Work Together
This is just a few examples I did for a fellow hs'er.

- Stellarium - Planatarium Program
Get this free planetarium program for your computer. It's great
for studying astronomy.

- Temperatures in Calgary - What Is the Usual Temperature
in Calgary?
A graph of the average high and low temperature, and the maximum
high's and low's ever recorded, for each month.

- Timez Attack - Multiplication Computer Game
This is a great computer program for teaching the multiplication
tables, especially for boys. They have to explore a dungeon like
environment (that is designed not to be too scary), and they
learn and practice multiplication as they go.
They also have a "Video Tour" for parents, that shows
what the program is like, and it explains their educational philosophy.
The Video Tour is available from their menu bar at the top of
their home page.
And the best part is that the "Base" version is free.
The Base version is very powerful and very educational on it's
own. Later on, you can buy some extra levels to give your child
more practice, if you want to, but they will definitely learn
lots from the Base version.

- Google - Search Site
Search for any topic you can think of from worksheets, to snowflakes,
to dyslexia. There are many home school and non-home school sites
on just about every topic you can imagine.
http://www.google.ca
Because there are so many great HS sites, and
more coming on-line all the time, it's a good idea to search
for a topic when you need it, at a search engine like Google
above.
